Abstract: Studies have demonstrated the influence of aging on language and general cognitive processing. Variables such as educational level and literacy habits over the course of a lifetime can be associated with cognitive-linguistic decline, maintenance, or improvement in healthy older adults and also appear to play a role in the onset of cognitive decline and dementia syndromes. This presentation will discuss studies that have been developed in language and cognitive assessment using computational tools and how the integration of these fields can contribute to the diagnosis of cognitive disorders as well as to the differentiation of groups by socioeconomic and cultural characteristics in adulthood and aging.

Short Bio: LILIAN CRISTINE HÜBNER is a full professor at the School of the Humanities of the Letras Undergraduate and Graduate Courses (Linguistics) at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). She is a researcher at the Institut of Geriatrics and Gerontology. She is a CNPq researcher (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development) and coordinates the Group of Studies on Neurolinguistics and Psycholinguistics (GENP) (CNPq/PUCRS). She holds a Masters Degree in Language Acquisition from UFRGS  (the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil) and a Ph.D. in Letras - English and Linguistics from UFSC (Federal University of Santa Catarina - Brazil). She developed her post-doctoral studies at the University of Montreal in Canada and at Sorbonne Paris VI - Pierre and Marie Curie University. She is one of the co-founders of RCpE (Science for Education Network) and member of the Include (International Network for Cross-Linguistic Research on Brain Health). Her main research areas are language (mainly discourse and semantics) and cognition in bi/multilingualism, in healthy and cognitively impaired aging (including Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment), as well as in cerebrovascular lesions, using structural and functional neuroimaging methods and computing tools. She has developed instruments and batteries for the examination of language and other cognitive constructs in healthy and clinical groups of varied ages.
